This week, the Port Angeles Uptown Arts District will complete an art installation along Race Street, starting at Lauridsen Boulevard. To accommodate this project, a section of the southbound lane on Race Street (at Lauridsen Boulevard) will close this evening, July 16, from 6-9 p.m.
A detour will be in place during this time. Vehicles traveling southbound on Race Street toward Mt. Angeles Road will detour via Lauridsen Boulevard. Please see the map below for details.
About the Port Angeles Uptown Arts District Project
Artist Heather Dawn Sparks of Bellingham, WA, and her team of artists will install "metamorphosis" along the retaining/sidewalk separation barrier on Race Street starting at Lauridsen Boulevard. This will include painting and stenciling the wall, then adding a plasma and hand-cut metal railing along the top of the wall. Artists began their work on Monday, July 14, and will continue through Thursday, July 17.
This installation is part of the larger effort to generate inclusive, vibrant arts and culture experiences and education along the Lauridsen Boulevard corridor. Other projects completed through this effort include the mural at Buena Luz Bakery, the murals at the Port Angeles Boys and Girls Club, artwork installed at the Franklin Elementary School Garden, wayfinding improvements for Webster's Woods Sculpture Park and the Port Angeles Community Playhouse, and artwork installed on four utility boxes along Lauridsen Boulevard. Eight local or regional artists have been deployed to support this work. These artists are Gianna Andrews, Tracy Beals, Simona Clausnitzer, Rachel Fisher, Todd Fischer, Sarah Necco, Irene Peters and Heather Dawn Sparks with support from Near Coast Metals and North Pacific Designs on various projects.
