Work continues on the 16th Street Stormwater Retrofit Project. As part of this project, stormwater upgrades are being installed on 16th Street, at the “C,” D,” and “E” Street intersections. These upgrades will help remove pollutants, including total suspended solids, dissolved copper, dissolved zinc and total phosphorus, from stormwater runoff before connecting into Tumwater Creek.
What’s been accomplished to date?
New stormwater infrastructure has been installed. Remaining work includes improving and restoring the roads in the work area. This includes the installation of ADA curb ramps and sidewalk on C Street; new curbs and gutters on C and D Streets; street paving and striping on C, D, and E Streets; and roadside restoration and landscaping.
What's happening next?
Asphalt excavation work will begin on Friday, April 10, at 7:00 a.m. and continue through the afternoon. During this work:
- The westside of the 16th & C Street intersection will close be closed to traffic
- C Street, between 15th and 17th Streets, will be reduced to one lane with flaggers onsite to direct traffic
- Detours to 16th Street will be in place at the following intersections: 15th & C Street, 17th & C Street
Normal traffic will resume on Friday afternoon and continue through the weekend. Travelers are urged to use caution when traveling through the work area due to uneven road surfaces and loose gravel.
On Monday, April 13, the areas listed above will close to traffic at 6:30 a.m. for paving work. The work area will reopen to traffic once the asphalt has cooled (expected at the end of the day depending on site and weather conditions).
Entrances to Angeles Millwork will remain accessible during this work.
