[ARCHIVED] 6/16/22 JESSE LEE ZIMMER SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON

PAPD Police Blotter 1

Jesse Lee Zimmer, age 32, of Port Angeles was sentenced to serve 10 years in prison on June 15, 2022 after pleading guilty to Vehicular Homicide Under the Influence and Vehicular Assault Under the Influence. Zimmer's prison sentence will be followed by 18 months of community custody.
The case began on November 24, 2020 at about 1:00 PM when Port Angeles Police Officers (in the photos below) responded to a blocking head-on motor vehicle collision on East First Street west of Del Guzzie Drive. The investigation revealed that an eastbound Dodge Charger driven by Zimmer swerved north across lanes of travel and collided head-on with a westbound Chevrolet HHR. Zimmer was arrested at the scene for an unrelated warrant, processed for driving while under the influence, and booked into jail as the investigation continued.
The occupants of the HHR were injured. One of the victims, a Port Angeles woman age 71, was taken to Harborview and then tragically died of her injuries on February 1, 2021, which caused the charges against Zimmer to be upgraded to include Vehicular Homicide. PAPD Detectives took over the investigation and worked through the court process in cooperation with the prosecutor's office.
