Timothy Michael Dies, age 52, of Port Angeles was sentenced to serve 13 months in state prison to be followed by 12 months of community custody after pleading guilty on May 5, 2022 to Felony DUI and Driving While License Suspended First Degree. This incident of DUI was a felony under Washington State law because Dies had three or more prior offenses within the last 10 years.
The case began on Thursday, February 3, 2022 at about 4:10 PM when Officer Whitney Fairbanks, Officer Harold Balderson, and Officer Nathan Swanson responded to a report from Valley View Drive that a suspect had driven past road barriers, road closed signs, and no trespassing signs.
Officers arrived and located Dies, who was clearly intoxicated, stumbling around near his car. Despite the car being blocked in, Dies got in, turned on the car, and put it in drive. An Officer prevented Dies from driving by seizing the keys. Dies was processed and booked for DUI. A blood test later revealed that his blood alcohol contend was .29, which is over three and a half times the states legal limit for DUI of .08.
