On January 4, 2021 Officer Sean Ryan was promoted by Chief of Police Brian Smith to the rank of Corporal.  He participated with other officers in a competitive process last spring that made him eligible for this promotion.   

Corporal Ryan lives in Port Angles with his family and has worked for the Port Angeles Police Department  for 15 years.    He has also worked for the WA Criminal Justice Training Commission  (CJTC) for an extended period as a contract instructor.  His primarily work was in the Basic  Law Enforcement Academy (BLEA).  In this assignment he became a subject matter expert in firearms training, use of force, tactics, de-escalation and legal issues.  He also worked in curriculum development and was called upon by the executive director to demonstrate and explain aspects of the training program to key governmental officials and elected leaders.

Corporal Ryan has a number of collateral duties which include field training officer, defensive tactics instructor, firearms instructor and medical officer.  He has a bachelors degree from Humbolt State University in California and maintains his certification as an emergency medical technician.

Corporal Ryan will be assigned to the Red Patrol Team along with Corporal Bruce Fernie and Sergeant Kevin Miller.
