On Monday May 9th at approximately 4:15 AM PAPD Officers were dispatched to the Safeway store on Lincoln Street for a reported disturbance. Based on the description of the subject it appeared that the person was the same individual that Officers had contacted on two occasions earlier in the morning. This subject is well known to Officers and has a demonstrated history of violence.
The first arriving Officer placed his patrol vehicle in a location that he believed would offer him some distance and shielding. The subject rapidly advanced on the Officer and the Officer found himself trapped in the open driver's door of his vehicle. The person made specific threats of violence and assaulted the Officer as he deployed his Taser. The subject then backed away and continued to behave in an erratic and aggressive manner. It was noted that the individual was showing pre attack indicators and the Officer requested expedited assistance.
Additional Officers arrived and there was an attempt to take the subject into custody. The subject was not compliant with multiple directions given by Officers. Taser actuations were not successful due to the heavy clothing worn by subject. Officers were not able to deploy their Bola wraps. The subject fled toward the Courthouse and then stopped and squared off in a fighting stance with an Officer. The subject was stopped by Officers and they worked together to place him into handcuffs. During the struggle he made threats to kill Officers and a kitchen paring knife fell from his clothing.
Given the subject's erratic behavior Officers placed him into a recovery position and requested that PA Fire Dept. Paramedics respond and provide medical care for apparent medical complications. PA Fire arrived quickly and initiated medical care. The subject was transported by Fire Dept. ambulance to the Olympic Medical Center. He was admitted to the hospital due to his medical condition.
The Prosecuting Attorney obtained a felony arrest warrant for multiple counts of felony harassment and felony assault on Officers. Considering the arrest warrant and the known propensity for violence Officers remained at the hospital with the subject for the next 36 hours. Late Tuesday afternoon the individual was released from the hospital. He was transported to and booked into the Clallam County Jail on multiple offenses. With the issuance of the arrest warrant the case has already been charged.
